Port of Nuremberg / Port of Roth : Rail traffic
Rail traffic

Hafen Nürnberg-Roth GmbH in its capacity as a railway infrastructure company makes available to its customers a comprehensive port infrastructure with electric points and rail lines totally 50 km in length.

The railway infrastructure is connected with full trains directly to the DB long-distance railway network and also for single freight car operation through the marshalling yards at Nuremberg station. Extensions to the port station will allow full electrified trains with a length of 700 m to be handled. Almost all the plots of land in the western and eastern parts of the port and all the quay sections have a rail connection to the port railway system.

Hafen Nürnberg-Roth GmbH has constructed a new terminal for combined transport between the end of 2004 and the beginning of 2006. The terminal of the Deutsche Bahn AG has moved from the inner city in Nuremberg into the freight traffic centre Port of Nuremberg at the end of 2009 as part of a second expansion stage. In the final expansion stage this terminal has a cargo handling capacity of up to 330,000 loading units a year for combined loading.

The freight traffic center Port of Nuremberg is profiting from the liberalization of rail traffic as a consequence of its excellent infrastructure and traffic connections. In the meantime four private railway companies are using the port infrastructure in addition to Railion. Hafen Nürnberg-Roth GmbH is promoting this positive trend through a permanent expansion and extension of the infrastructure and services provided within rail transport. In particular, the growth potential for container transport by rail and the potential for transferring cargo from road to rail will produce above-average growth of the capacity for handling freight by rail in the freight traffic center Port of Nuremberg.
